State Secretary, Ministry of Defense, Slovakia
Marian Majer has been serving within the Slovak Ministry of Defense for more than 15 years, as, among other positions, Political Director and Chief Inspector. In March 2020, he assumed the position of State Secretary of Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic after serving as Chief of the Office of the State Secretary. Currently, he leads a team that prepares both new Security and Defense Strategy of the Slovak Republic as well as the Action Plan on Countering Hybrid Threats. He has always been a strong proponent of participation of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic to international operations and missions, as well as transatlantic anchoring of Slovak foreign policy.
Previously, he held the position of Director of the Slovak Security Policy Institute (SSPI) and co-founded CyberSec.sk, the first Slovak web-portal on cyber security. He also worked as a Senior Fellow for Security and Defense in other non-governmental think-tanks - Central European Policy Institute (CEPI) and Centre for European and North Atlantic Affairs (CENAA). He graduated from the Philosophical Faculty of the Comenius University in Bratislava where he was lecturing on the topics of international security.
He has completed numerous courses abroad, such as U.S. State Department´s International Visitor Leadership Program, NATO Defense College´s NATO in Transformation Course, several courses in NATO School, Oberammergau. He is the author and editor of numerous scientific books and other publications in the field of security and defense policy and international relations, published in Slovakia and abroad.
He speaks English and Russian. He is married and has two children.
